"'Stains' is not a retrospective, but documents the interim status of a process that is fueled by questions about the 'right' way to deal with the stone witnesses of fascism and is still ongoing.
[…] 'Stains' as a whole is above all an invitation to its guests to ask questions and to enter into conversation about the possibilities and limits of this endeavor. Because only questions keep memories alive."
S. Leucht, Süddeutsche Zeitung, September 2024
This Lecture performance is based on the research project CAPTURES, where we investigated the creative and documentary potential of photography for the ephemeral art form of dance. We placed the dancing body in different architectural and urban contexts in order to visualize and engage into a dialogue with the genius loci trapped in the built structure of each place.
The resulting visual material is brought together in this lecture performance and invites all of us to reflect upon the culture of memory, which we chose to approach through the concepts of body, architecture, memory and utopia.
A special focus is placed on architecture from the Nazi era in Germany and Austria and Fascist era in Italy. The second part of this performance is a screening of the visual material collected in the above mentioned countries and it includes an open discussion about what is shown.
A multimedia installation displaying additional material complements the event. Performance in English.
